TITANITE
Strange .... but it took a few years before I had a couple off nice Titanites in my Wannenkopf collection. The past year, 2005 , was a good Titanite year,
I found a lot of nice Titanite specimens, different colors, different forms. Outstanding was my visit in august 2005. I found an ordinary grey hard xenolith .... I thought !!
Just a few cavities with no interesting minerals .... until I found a nice Titanite. Curious I went on with cracking .... and then came lots of nice Titanites on Amphibole, and the Titanite "doppel-enders".
You can find Titanite crystals in a lot off different xenoliths. You can find nice formed Titanite in little pale brown/yellow cavities (max. 1 cm), surrounded by Sanidin, together with tiny red rounded Rutile,
green Clinopyroxene, Quartz, and even sometimes nice Tridymite crystals (skeletons). Colours .... brown, red-orange, yellow-colourless, greenish, cognac.
Long prismatic, sometimes almost needle formed, short prismatic with many shine faces, arrow form, "doppel-enders", even right-angled forms.
